US H1B Visa To Be Issued On Merit Basis

US President Donald Trump has directed his administration to "reform" the H1B visa system and move in the direction of merit-based immigration, White House officials have said.
"Moving to a merit-based immigration system," the White House said in a statement soon after Trump issued a proclamation to temporarily suspend H1B and other work visas till the end of the year. The Trump Administration will reform the immigration system to prioritise the highest-skilled workers and protect American jobs, it said.
Under these reforms, the H-1B programme will prioritise those workers who are offered the highest wage, ensuring that the highest-skilled applicants are admitted, the White House said.
The Trump Administration will also close loopholes that have allowed employers in the US to replace American workers with low-cost foreign labour, it said.
These reforms will help protect the wages of American workers and ensure that foreign labour entering our country is high skilled and does not undercut the United States labour market, the White House added.
Why Merit-Based Visa Is A Good News For Indians?
Under the Merit-based visa system only the most qualified applicants and the ones with the highest salary offers will be provided immigration and visa.
Since Indian applicants for H1B visa and immigration mostly comprises of skilled IT professionals, they will get more weightage, compared to other applicants.
This will eliminate the need for lottery-based visa approvals, and diversity-based visa quota, wherein a fixed number of visas are allocated to specific nationalities.
Merit-based visa can prove to be a boon for Indian H1B visa applicants, who are experts in their respective niche, and command highest salary.
