Harvard, MIT Sue Trump Administration Over New Rule For Foreign Students

Harvard University along with MIT has filed a plea in the US District Court in Boston seeking a temporary restraining order prohibiting enforcement of the order by the Trump administration that directs international students in the US who do not attend in-person classes should leave the country. “We will pursue this case vigorously so that our international students—and international students at institutions across the country—can continue their studies without the threat of deportation, Harvard President Lawrence S. Bacow said in a statement on the University site. “For many of our international students, studying in the United States and studying at Harvard is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Dismissal from part-time jobs and a loss of financial support from family members abroad due to Covid-19 has left some students having to choose between eating meals or paying their course fees, which they are usually required to pay in order to remain in the UK. This is exacerbated by the fact that most overseas students are blocked from accessing state support because of the no recourse to public funds (NRPF) policy, which prevents thousands of migrants from accessing help from the government due to their immigration status.
